Ah, Pet Ownership 7/19/2005 Edit The merriment and sadness of pet ownership! The merriment and sadness of pet ownership!
To the Conlons (Parmuk)...been there have done this four times now; guaranteed it sucks my friends. No explanations, its not acceptable that you acquire a pet (in my case) at about the age of eight months old, love, adore, raise it up to be an acceptable little four legged citizen and then one day bam, its all over, and your life will never be the same again.
Have lost four of my pets to date; had to have two euthanized, one died while in the care of the Vet, my last baby, I found stretched out on top of her water bowl when I got home from work. Her casket and ashes are on top of my fireplace along with a picture and it is this set of events that has made it a little easier for me (having her in the house, nearby).
They are wonderful to have around to love and raise them, and it is most gratifying to be on the end of the unconditional love they give you. For year after year you take them to the Vet, shots, special foods and treats, ask questions about them. Whenever they get sick, do what can dear Vet; but but....do we ever really acknowleged to ourselves that the truth of the matter is , that our FRIENDS simply do not live long enough. When they get sick, we instruct the Vet to fix em up...we don't even want to think about the fact that maybe the time has passed for that....(pity,)
I had always been a great mom to my animals, ah the stories I continue to share about them with family and friends about how they got over on me...lol! Annette, Doug, that time will come for you as well, but for the meantime, cry as much as you need to. Talk about your love for her, never forget how wonderful the two of you were with her and for her. I'm sure it doesn't seem like it for you right now, the pain will lessen eventually and you'll be able to discuss Muki in your day-to-day banter. It appeared to me that the two of you were great parents, always keep that in your heart, you certainly can't go wrong there.
My best wishes to you and so sorry for your loss (what a beautiful animal).
