Merriment and Sadness of Pet Ownership (2)
Ah, Pet Ownership (pt 2) Current mood: contemplative
and so you may ask..the loss of four pets??? Yep, thats what I said.
You see grieving for a pet is a process. We are in a vulnerable state, and each day will be different from the next. Take one day at a time. It is amusing now but it wasn't then, with the loss of each of my animals there were the long distance teary phone calls to my mother in New York City, the calls to my employee at the Post Office for annual leave because I was so devastated and couldn't work!
What happens friends is that eventually, the void you feel will slowly fill with loving memories of times shared with your animal. As you readjust your daily routine, the sadness and grief will subside.
The question here was ...after four times???. Well the answer is, remember why we had the pet in the first place, it gave us unconditional love and in turn taught us how to do the same. It had no hidden agendas and therefore neither would we. After the grief and sadness subside at some point, well then perhaps one is ready to adopt another friend and companion and once again share love with a new pet. This is why it happened to me four times. Its a love I have never forgotten or regretted.
Nette, Doug, you are correct about not denying your feelings as you have lost a significant partner in your life, and this is certainly your time to express your emotions.
